Wastwater - Wild Camping
The Lake DistrictWastwater sits on the western side of the Lake District. It’s wild and remote one road in the same one out. Mobile phone signal non-here! (O2 anyway.)
There is a hotel, bar a National Trust camp site and car park at the end of the road. If you fancy a stroll up Scafell Pike then this is your starting point.
The Van
We had a very cold night but well worth it. The wind was blowing bitterly cold air down from the mountain, rocking the van from side to side. That’s one of the points when living in your van you get to hear and feel the weather around you!
Looking east from our spot.
Scafell Pike poking up from behind.
Gentle sounds of running water from the small waterfall next to us.
The sun shone for us covering the hills in this amazing light. As night fell the weather changed to heavy wind and rain. From the warmth of our van we could see the walkers lights slowly coming down from the slopes of Scafell Pike. I could also see the dim lights of what could be people camping near to the summit of Scafell Pike!
A short video of the morning light and rain, giving Wast Water a totally different look and feel from yesterdays sunlight!
I do enjoy experiencing the contrast of the same location from different weathers and seasons.
