Hi,

I made the base by welding 90 degree angle mild steel to both sides of the the van, high enough to clear the seat and kitchen when the bed slides out. Now for the sliding bit… get three lengths of box mild steel and weld two of the lengths to the angle making a fixed section.. The third length will be the pullout part. Now arrange your slats… Fixed.. Sliding… Fixed… Sliding… screw them down to the relevant box length. Hope that makes sense!

A slightly late reply! We chose to weld the bed supports as we wanted high strength with minimum structure on show. We used mild steel to make the bed frame which has been more than strong enough! With an Ikea firm mattress, our bed is supper comfy! Four years on would not change the design for this van. Have you built your van yet?

Can I ask why you chose to weld the frame to the van wall rather than use ‘plus nuts’ or something similar?
